UK COMIC RESOURCES

An International Catalogue of Superheroes
The purpose of this site is to build up a database of information about various superhero characters from around the world. For decades American comics, and especially those from two prolific publishing houses, have dominated if not the market, then certainly the public's perception of it. There are few people in the world who would not recognise Superman, Batman, Spider-Man or the X-Men, and there are hundreds of websites devoted to those characters. That is not the focus of this site. One day, perhaps, I will start to index those famous characters, but that day, if it comes about, is some way off.

Instead this site is intended to cover less well known, but no less worthy, creations. In particular it aims to showcase some of the international diversity that exists in the superhero world. There are large sections devoted to heroes from Britain, France, Canada, Australia and Japan, which continue to expand as I learn more about the heroes of each of those countries. I've tried to give coverage to characters who appeared in many Independent comics in America, from companies such as Comico, Eclipse, First, Antarctic Press, Now, Innovation, and many, many others.

Back From The Depths
On 24th March 1984 Scream! hit the shelves of newsagents around the world. The fantastic stories within its pages had kids shaking in their shoes in a way no other comic has ever achieved. Then, after only 15 issues, Scream! mysteriously ended. Rumours of strikes at IPC Magazines, the comic's creators, could have been the cause. Declining comic sales in the UK another. Possibly the grizzly nature of Scream! caused hordes of desperate mothers to get the comic banned. Who knows? Maybe a darker mystery is at the heart of this puzzle, a bizarre twist that no one has the answer to. Whatever did happen the fact remains the Scream! was an awesome comic, nearly forgotten forever…nearly, but not anymore.

BatmanUK - Brian Davis
"If you are reading this then there is no doubt that you are a probably a fan of Batman. In fact you've probably been a fan of Batman longer than me. I was born in Lisburn, Northern Ireland on 12th December 1981 and I was originally introduced to the world of Batman 5 years later in the mid-80's. The 60's show was airing on ITV on Saturday mornings."

Dan Dare & Eagle - Nicholas Hill
"The Eagle comic was published for the first time in April 1950. The feature that came to dominate it was Dan Dare, written and drawn by Frank Hampson.

This site is a tribute to Frank Hampson. I hope this page will also introduce people who are not familiar with him to the character he created : Dan Dare, star of the 1950s boys' magazine, Eagle ..."

Dan Dare.net
This website is intended to provide you with an introduction to "Dan Dare, Pilot of the Future" in an interactive, and hopefully enjoyably informative, manner. I have included a complete history of the character (which you will find a bit further down this page), a large selection of images (mainly on a dedicated images page but also scattered around on all the other pages in this site), plus a comprehensive list of related web links for you to follow should you wish to browse for more detailed information and further images. I have also included a range of fully interactive "fun stuff" (games, jigsaw puzzles, picture puzzles, word puzzles and toys, some with a Dan Dare theme, some without but which I like anyway and included here because I thought you might like them too) for your further enjoyment. I would recommend that you thoroughly explore this website in order to get the most out of it, as there is a huge amount to discover.
