Don't ask me I have no idea about this one!

Comet was a very slim boys comic with 4 longer than normal comic strips in it. The center strip was in colour as was the front cover.

More information will be forthcoming (When we find it).

The Comet and the Sun comics were early 50,s weeklies I remember them well, as I had them delivered along with the Beano. Buffalo Bill was the main story in the Comet and Billy the kid was the main story in The Sun. - Ron Hatton

These were indeed twin comics of excellence, and particularly the front page stories. In the Comet this was Buffalo Bill in later editions when the story was actually begun on the front page, usually with one or two striking colour frames. The Sioux always called Buffalo Bill 'Pa - e -haska' in the stories. He was always portrayed in long thigh-height boots and buckskins. Several artists were employed over a period of years to illustrate Buffalo Bill and in my opinion reached standards that very few comic artists ever surpassed (except perhaps Ronald Embleton, who was illustrating profusely at this time also, mainly in TV Comic and Look and Learn.) One more thing - each year they (Fleetway Comics, London) issued a 'Buffalo Bill Wild West Annual' which would now be worth its weight in gold if only for some of the illustrations by Fortunino Matania Jr, especially one double-page spread of the Battle of Little Big Horn which could never be forgotten. Where did that kind of immense skill go? We may not have had electronic games to enjoy, but we sure had highly skilled artists feeding us every week in a way that comics just couldn't afford today. Gosh - what nostalgia! - Rene Cochlin

I agree with Rene Cochlin about the Comet comic, however NEITHER Amalgamated Press (AP)/Fleetway nor Fortunino Matania that had anything to do with the Buffalo Bill Annuals. These were published by T.V. Boardman (1949-1961 and the last volume by Purnell in 1962) and all drawn exclusively by UK artist Denis McLoughlin.

Two of the most popular comic titles of the 1950's were acquired by AP, Comet and Sun. Both these titles were actually started by J.B. Allen just after the war, but when AP took over J.B. Allen's titles in 1949 they re-vamped the strips (reducing the size of the comic along the way) and exchanged the "funnies" strips of Allen with such great adventure strips as Battler Britton, Billy the Kid, Robin Hood, Wild Bill Hickok and Dick Turpin in the Sun and Buffalo Bill, Kit Carson, Claude Duval and Strongbow the Mohawk, Jet Ace Logan in Comet.

For the Comet: Buffalo Bill strips were done by Eric Bradbury, Colin Merritt, Geoff Campion (1916-87), Italians Renato Polese and Mario Uggeri, and Spaniards Alejandro and brother, Jesus Blasco (better known for his work on the The Steel Claw in Valiant), and various others. The Comet Buffalo Bill covers were drawn by Derek Eyles and Sep Scott. Jet Ace Logan was drawn by John Gillatt and Geoff Campion. Geoff Campion, Patrick Nicolle, Ron Embleton, Derek Eyles, Steve Chapman and others drew Kit Carson

For the Sun: Eric Bradbury and Geoff Campion drew Wild Bill Hickok. Billy the Kid was variously drawn by Geoff Campion, Colin Merritt, the Blasco brothers (Jesus, Alejandro and Adriano), Eric Parker, Fred Holmes, Ian Kennedy, and others. - Steve Taylor
