Cheeky first appeared in his own comic on 22nd October 1977 but he had already become a star in Krazy Comic which came out earlier that year. In 1979 he was to join up with the "Krazy Gang" for a strip in Whizzer & Chips and in 1980 moved to Whoopee where he had his own "Cheeky Comic" inside.

Cheeky was the coolest person I knew when I was eight (nearly as cool as Tucker Jenkins) His mates like Posh Claude, Disco Kid, Gunga Dinn, the Spiv and the first love of my life Lilly Pop all seemed so exciting. Unfortunately age and a sense of political correctness has destroyed the magic.

Cheeky had a rather unusual structure. The 'framing strip' showed Cheeky meeting various friends (like Walter Wurks the boy who always needed to go to the toilet), and linking into the other strips. The comic would show a week in the life of Cheeky with a different strip for each day of the week. On Monday he'd be doing his paper round and the Skateboard Squad would whizz by leading into their strip. He'd watch the Six Million Dollar Gran on tv, and other strips he'd watch in a cinema or read in books etc. I believe it merged with Whoopee Clive Huggett
